You can only enjoy the full Japanese summer experience once you’ve been to a firework festival! Throughout Japan, there a lot of Hanabi matsuri, but let’s focus on Kyoto shall we?
You won’t have fireworks festivals in Kyoto per say, but you will be able to grasp the full magic of it with a short train ride! Enjoying street food from various stalls, admiring Japanese people in their most beautiful traditional summer outfit (yukata), this is also part of the fun!
花火は日本の昔からの夏の風物詩ですよね！日本では沢山の花火大会が毎年開催され、日本のお祭りを体験しようと海外の方々からも注目されています。京都から電車で少し足を伸ばせば美しく素晴らしい花火の世界を体験することが出来ます！特に、食べ歩きや屋台、日本人の浴衣姿をひと目見ようと多くの方が訪れます。今回はその中でも人気な京都のお祭りをご紹介します！
KYOTO GEIJUTSU HANABI FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
Unlike some fireworks festivals that take place in public parks and along rivers or lakes, Kyoto Geijutsu Hanabi takes place at the Kyoto Racecourse in Yodo. This means that it costs money to attend (¥7,700 for assigned seating in the stands, with group tickets for open seating by the track also available), but in exchange you get to avoid the scramble to try and find a patch of open space among blankets and sheets spread out by people who may have been camping out for ours to get good seats. The fireworks are synchronized with music. In the past songs of Queens and Beyonce were part of the entertainment!
京都芸術花火大会
多くの花火大会が公園や川、湖畔で行われる中、京都芸術花火大会は京都の淀にある京都競馬場で開催される少し他とは異なる花火大会です。これは参加費が掛かることを意味します。(観覧席指定席は7,700円、コース別の団体チケットも利用可能です）しかし、あなたは良い席を確保するため早くからシートを広げたりするような争奪戦から開放されます。
花火と音楽が一体となり、一層の迫力感を体感出来ることでしょう！過去にはクイーンやビヨンセの楽曲で盛り上がっていました！

KAMEOKA HEIWASAI HOZUGAWA FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
Held in the first half of August, the festival takes place along the Hozugawa river in Kameoka, a city over the mountains to the west of Kyoto. Be careful though, over 75 000 people usually attend this event. Just be sure to go early enough to get the best spot! Specially selected by the Japan Fireworks Artist Association (which aims to evolve the tradition of fireworks culture), expect to see the night sky illuminated with a rainbow of colours. Among the 8,000 fireworks that are used during this festival, there are some original ones as well, such as the “Kamemaru Hanabi.” You will also be able to get dinner from the 150 food stalls in place!
亀岡平和祭保津川市民花火大会
8月前半に、亀岡市の保津川沿いにて開催されるこの花火大会には毎年75000人以上が訪れます。花火を見る良い場所を確保するためには早めの時間に行くのがオススメ！ここでは日本煙火芸術協会が推薦する特選玉を見ることができます。そんな花火を見ることができる花火大会は全国でも数少ないとのこと。合計8000発もの花火が打ちあげられ、夜空一面が虹色に輝きます。夜空を彩る花火を眺めながら屋台の美味しい食べ物を楽しめるなんて最高ですよね！

KYOTO NANTAN CITY FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
It’s a fireworks festival held on the banks of the Oigawa River about five minutes walk from the JR Yagi Station. The festival used to be known as the "Yagi Fireworks Festival." It started in 1947, shortly after the end of the war, to commemorate the fallen of the Second world war. The festival is still held every year: about 500 lanterns are set afloat to create a magical atmosphere before the fireworks display. The festival mood is enhanced by an opening event, featuring songs and dances, and as always, a village of street stalls.
京都南丹市花火大会
京都府南丹市、JR八木駅から徒歩10分程の大堰川の土手沿いにて開催されています。このお祭りは戦後1947年に始まり、かつては八木花火大会として知られていました。第二次世界大戦終戦を記念するために今でも毎年開催されます。花火が打ち上げられる前には約500もの灯籠が浮かび、会場はうっとりするような雰囲気に包まれます。歌やダンスを含むオープニングイベントや、立ち並ぶ屋台が会場の雰囲気をより一層活気あるものへと盛り上げます！

LAKE BIWA GREAT FIREWORK FESTIVAL
Enjoy 10,000 fireworks launched into the air over Lake Biwa, a stunning display of light that plays out in harmony with jets of fountain water. As 350,000 people throng the banks of the lake every year, incredible fireworks such as star mines are launched against a backdrop of verdant nature. The venue also offers paid seating, from which you can get the best possible view of all the action. You will need to purchase a ticket that goes from ¥2,000 to ¥33,000. びわ湖大花火大会
約1万発の花火がびわ湖上空に打ち上げられ、光や噴水との共演を楽しむことができますよ！毎年35万人が訪れるこの花火大会では、琵琶湖の大自然を背に素晴らしい花火が打ち上げられます。有料座席も設置されているので、最高の眺めを楽しみたい方は利用されてはいかがでしょうか？ウェブサイトで販売されているので、ぜひご確認ください。

TENJIN MATSURI FESTIVAL
Osaka isn’t really far from Kyoto, and even if you are travelling on a budget you can actually reach it by the Hankyu line for less than ¥500. The nearest station is Kawaramachi station, which is 5 minutes walk from the Millennials. The Tenjin Matsuri Festival Dedication Fireworks Display adorns the night sky on the final day of the Tenjin Festival, which is one of Japan's top three festivals alongside Kanda Festival and Gion Festival. Fireworks spelling out the names of businesses which are supporting the festival are very popular at the Tenjin Matsuri.
天神祭奉納花火
京都は大阪へのアクセスも良いので、大阪のお祭りに出掛けてみるのもいかがでしょうか？
神田祭や祇園祭と並んで日本3大祭りのひとつである天神祭りでは、最終日に花火が夜空を彩ります。天神祭奉納花火で打ち上げられる、協賛企業の名前をかたどった花火も見どころの一つですよ！

MINATO KOBE MARINE FIREWORKS FESTIVAL in KOBE
This is the beautiful night scenery of the port city of Kobe. It has even been evaluated as a “million dollar night view”. Approximately 10,000 fireworks decorate the sky at the Minato Kobe Marine Fireworks Festival.
Enjoy the colorful night scenery introduced by the fireworks while smelling the salty sea breeze. The easy accessibility from Motomachi, the town center of Kobe, and Sannomiya is another appeal of the event.
みなとこうべ海上花火大会
「100万ドルの夜景」とも称される港町神戸の夜景と花火のコラボはまさに格別です。みなとこうべ海上花火大会では、およそ1万発の花火が打ち上げられます。潮風を感じながら、花火を楽しんでみてはいかがでしょうか？神戸市の中心街からのアクセスが良いのも、魅力の一つですね。
