Top Christmas Illuminations near Shibuya

Visiting Tokyo for Christmas and looking for beautiful illuminations to see? We’ve got you covered! We have put together a list of our favourite light shows and decorations near The Millennials Shibuya so you can easily decide on the most interesting one for you and go straight from your pod to a lit up winter wonderland. Read on for a detailed description of each event, their dates, and how long it takes to get there from our hotel. We’ve also added in some nice pictures in case you need some photo ideas for your instagram feed:

1. Caretta Shiodome

Dates: November 14th - February 14th (Closed on January 1st and 2nd) Time: 17:00 - 23:00 (Nov-Dec) / 18:00 - 23:00 (Jan-Feb) Distance: 25 min from The Millennials Shibuya

Caretta Shiodome Disney MovieNEX Arabian Night Illumination 2019 is probably the longest name a Christmas Illumination can have but it's worth taking your time to memorize it cause you won't wanna miss this one if you’ve come all the way to Tokyo. With more than 250.000 led lights, Caretta Shiodome offers you an unforgettable Disney inspired show with a different theme every year. This year’s main inspiration is Aladdin to celebrate the release of the super successful live action remake of the original Disney movie of 1992. What’s more, you can see a small but cute Disney exhibition on the 46th floor of the building, where you'll also find a breathtaking night view of the city.

2. Tokyo Midtown

Dates: From November 14th to December 25th Time: 17:00 - 23:00 Distance: 19 min from The Millennials Shibuya

Tokyo Midtown is one of the most popular Winter Illuminations in Tokyo and this year’s Starlight Garden will have almost 200.000 led lights, creating the best Christmas atmosphere to take nice pics and videos. It's actually a pretty big area where you can find a lot of facilities like shops, restaurants, and cozy cafes. We recommend avoiding Christmas Eve because it's crazy crowded and you probably won’t be able to take the beautiful pics that your instagram feed deserves. With artificial moon and stars projected into the sky overhead, it’s quite a pretty romantic spot.

Yebisu Garden Place features an elegant environment with a gold and champagne colour palette of over 100,000 LED lights and a beautiful 10m high Christmas Tree. This year’s the main attraction is the "Baccarat Eternal Lights", a huge crystal shiny chandelier with a total of 250. There's also a really interesting European-styled Christmas Market where you can enjoy delicious street food.

4. Shinjuku Terrace City

Dates: November 19th - February 16th Time: 17:00 - 00:00 Distance: 16 min from The Millennials Shibuya

Shinjuku Terrace City is a great spot for enjoying beautiful Christmas Illumination while walking around the craziest neighborhood in Tokyo. Take advantage of the wide variety of restaurants and shops while having a nice photo session at the “colours” themed Terrace. If you head there straight from The Millennials, be sure to get out from the West Exit of Shinjuku Station. Keep an eye out for sights of the illumination from the Yamanote Line!

5. Shibuya Blue Cave

Dates: From November 29th to January 14th (Yoyogi Park side only until 12/31) Time: 17:00 - 22:00 Distance: 1 min from The Millennials Shibuya

Shibuya Blue Cave (青の洞窟) covers the pedestrian walkways all the way from Shibuya to Nakameguro River. Since 2016, it has become one of the most important Christmas Illuminations in Tokyo. As you can imagine from just looking at the pictures, walking through the path feels like swimming in a bright blue see of lights (around 600,000 to be more precise), and the atmosphere around the river lined with beautiful shimmering trees is simply magical!

And that’s a wrap! We hope you enjoyed this blog and we wish you all a very merry Christmas during your time here in Tokyo.

Lots of love from The Millennials Shibuya Team ✨
